What items should I avoid washing in the dishwasher?Updated 3 hours ago

Some items aren't recommended for dishwasher cleaning at all, regardless of detergent, due to how dishwashers affect them. While we can't list everything, here are some common items best hand-washed, and why:

  • Cast iron cookware: Dishwashers can strip the seasoning and cause rust.
  • Wooden utensils and cutting boards: Prolonged exposure to water and heat can cause wood to crack and warp.
  • Copper and aluminum cookware: These metals can discolor or corrode in a dishwasher's high heat and detergent environment.
  • Non-stick pans: The dishwasher can damage the non-stick coating, reducing its lifespan.
  • Sharp knives: Dishwasher detergent and high heat can dull blades.
  • Fine china and delicate glassware: High heat and powerful water jets can chip or crack delicate items.
  • Plastic items not labeled dishwasher-safe: Lower-quality or thin plastics can warp under high heat.
  • Items with decorative metallic trim or paint: Gold rims, painted patterns, and similar finishes can fade, tarnish, or flake off over repeated washes.

Always check the care instructions for any item before placing it in the dishwasher. Everything else, everyday dishes, glasses, and cookware labeled dishwasher-safe, cleans perfectly well with Dropps.
